Mettā Meditation

Through the practice of mettā meditation the qualities of loving-kindness, benevolence, and friendliness are cultivated and strengthened.

Mettā is a benevolent, loving, and friendly attitude towards oneself and all living beings. A person filled with mettā radiates boundless benevolence that encompasses all living beings and is not dependent on any conditions. This loving and benevolent inner attitude is manifested as the wish for all sentient to be healthy and well, to be free from danger and suffering, or to be happy and peaceful.

Mettā is the opposite of ill will, aversion, anger, hate, frustration, or rejection.

Mettā meditation is an incredibly helpful foundation for vipassanā meditation as it opens and widens the heart & mind and as it is able to meet all experiences with acceptance and kindness.

Each morning our first thought should be to dedicate the day for the well-being of all sentient beings. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
